The spur not only supplies a socket but may supply fcu s as well. Spur from existing socket outlet. Locate the cable of the ring main as close to the new socket as possible. The rule is that you can spur off one socket from a point within a ring main circuit or unlimited number of fcus fused to 13a.

Ring mains may have spurs off them either they can be spured from an existing socket or from a junction box there is importantly over the whole ring the total number of spurs must not exceed the number of socket outlets directly on the main ring. A spur can be connected to an existing socket on either a ring main or a radial circuit providing that socket does not already have a spur. The most common is to connect it as a spur and this can be done in two ways. Alternatively the ring can be extended.

No more than two separate spurs may be connected from each outlet on the ring. That is only one spur per socket is allowed and the number of spurs must not exceed the number of sockets.
